Between Friday and Saturday nights, the NSP said troopers arrested four drivers who fled from traffic stops in the Omaha metro area. Three of the four incidents involved a motorcycle rider. The NSP said in all cases, the riders exceeded 100 miles per hour while fleeing from law enforcement. NSP and OPD aircraft were able to help track the vehicles.
A fourth incident involved a Dodge Challenger. The NSP said a trooper clocked it going 120 miles per hour near 144th and Center. The speed limit in that area is 45 miles per hour. Troopers eventually deployed stop sticks and arrested the driver.
"These offenders have demonstrated indifference to the safety of others on the road," said Capt. Matt Sutter, Commander of Troop A, in a news release. "Excessive speeding is extremely dangerous and can lead to tragic outcomes. These cases are great examples of teamwork between agencies to make the roads safer for all."
The NSP said it planned to conduct more speeding enforcement operations throughout the summer. It said grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office is partially financing the effort.
