Two teens were killed and three others hospitalized when their vehicle slammed into a tree in Weber County seconds after police attempted to pull them over for a minor traffic infraction.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday near 700 East on 3100 North in North Ogden.

Officials with the North Ogden Police Department said when an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver took off “at a high rate of speed.”

Within just a couple blocks, the vehicle went through an intersection at 450 East, lost control and went off the roadway.

The silver sedan then slammed into a tree, ripping it from the trunk and causing significant damage to the car.

There were five males in the vehicle. Officials originally said they ranged in age from teenagers to early 20s. They've since said all five were age 18 or younger.

None of their identities were released. Details were not available for the condition of the three sent to the hospital for treatment.

Investigators did not know why the driver fled, but did say alcohol and marijuana were located inside the car.

Officials were working to determine if impairment contributed to the crash.
