MERCED, Calif. — A man was attacked by a K-9 officer after he refused an arrest and assaulted a police officer in Merced on Friday.
An officer was attempting to arrest 47-year-old Cory Gummo after he was found inside a stolen vehicle in a Rite Aid parking lot near G Street and Olive Avenue.

While the officer was trying to place Gummo into handcuffs who was also already on probation, he pushed the officer to try and get away which led to the fight.
Officer Prevostini then called on K-9 Stas, which was able to hold down Gummo during the arrest.
The man was taken to the hospital for medical aid but following his discharge, he was booked into the Merced County Jail.

Cummo faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting and obstructing a peace officer, assault on a peace officer, and violation of probation.
