ABC 17 News Crews are working to learn more and will update this story when new details become available.

A woman who said that she is the mother of the 11-year-old asked to be interviewed by ABC 17 when crews arrived on the scene. Charis Echelmeyer said that she can't believe what happened.

Echelmeyer said that just before the accident she and her older son went to the gas station to grab snacks, and when they arrived back at her husband's house, her son went inside to get his brother when she heard the gun shot.

Echelmeyer said “And then, rather than Noah come out like he usually does, we hear this bang, even my even my seven year old daughter hear it. She said what’s that mommy, and I said I don’t know honey.”

Echelmeyer said that she wants to use her voice to shine light on the importance of gun safety. "My eleven year old son is the real victim here. He was such a sweet, sweet kid and honestly some proper gun safety.... some proper DFS intervention that would have done wonders for my situation."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Boone County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
