Man found dead in Monroe County

STROUD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) —Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) is investigating the death of an elderly man in Monroe County.

According to Monroe County Coroner Thomas Yanac, 81-year-old, Howard Cohen, of Philadelphia, was fishing with another person in Paradise Creek in Stroud Township, Saturday morning around 9:30, when Cohen lost his footing, fell, and the current swept him away.

Yanac said Cohen’s dead body was later found downstream and his death appears to be an accidental drowning.

PSP-Stroudsburg, Corporal Hale says they are handling the death investigation and so far nothing seems suspicious.

An autopsy of Cohen’s body is scheduled for Monday at 12:00 p.m.
