VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A teenager is dead after a single-vehicle accident sends 5 juveniles to the hospital.
Knox County Sheriff Doug Vantlin said a passenger in the car, 17-year-old, Davidson St. Victor, died from their injuries.
He said one car was heading west on US-50 when it lost control and went into the median of the eastbound lane.
The accident happened near Robinson Road.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Dept., on arrival, police discovered a 17-year-old male driver was traveling west on US-50 and for unknown reasons, crossed over the center median and spun around in the eastbound lanes. The vehicle reportedly rolled over at least once and then came to a rest in the center median.
At least two of the five occupants were thrown from the vehicle.
Among the occupants were a 15-year-old female and a 17-year-old male that were transported by ambulance to Daviess Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The other three occupants were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in critical condition where they were stabilized and later transported to surrounding hospitals by helicopter.
Those transferred by helicopter include the 17-year-old male driver, a 17-year-old male passenger and a 14-year-old female passenger.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Dept., the incident remains under investigation and details are subject to change.
State Police assisted Sheriff’s deputies with traffic and crash reconstruction.
Further information will be released after family notification has been made.
Steve Peterson, Washington High School’s Principal released a statement on behalf of the school.
“It is with regret that we share the news regarding several of our Washington HS students who were involved in a tragic single-car accident yesterday evening.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our beloved high school students who passed away early this morning after a fierce battle with his injuries.
We have two high school students who are each in their own battles but appear to be making progress.
Two additional high school students were treated and released last night.
Please keep these students and their families in your thoughts and prayers. Additional counseling and support will be available for students and staff on Monday.”
