Mia Lawson allowed just one earned run off five hits in a complete-game effort to lead third-seeded Belvidere to a 2-1 victory over sixth-seeded Brearley in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 tournament Saturday.
Belvidere will now face second-seeded Weehawken, a 2-0 winner over 10th-seeded Becton, in the semifinal round.
Lawson struck out just two in the win for Belvidere (16-5) as Brearley only plated a run in the fourth inning. She also recorded the lone RBI and went 0-for-2 with a walk at the plate.
Kayla Connors and Audrey Charous recorded a single apiece to conjure up the Belvidere offense as the lineup drew six walks on the day.
Brearley ends its season with an 11-8 record.
Cedar Grove 8, Dayton 0
Cayce Kavakich drove in two runs off a home run and double as top-seeded Cedar Grove secured an 8-0 win over ninth-seeded Dayton in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 tournament Saturday.
Cedar Grove awaits the winner of fourth-seeded Whippany Park and fifth-seeded Ridgefield—which will be played on Monday—in the semifinal round.
Kavakich also earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete game and allowing just three hits while striking out 11 batters.
Paige Scheid, Talia Recenello and Carlee Berwanger each drove in a run for Cedar Grove (18-8) with Berwanger adding a double to her total.
Alyssa Santangelo tallied a pair of singles for Dayton (10-11) with Angela Gatto recording a hit as well.
