Many believed Jimmy Garoppolo was going to be traded this offseason by the San Francisco 49ers as they hand the keys to the offense over to Trey Lance. But, to this point, the organization has kept Jimmy G around, which means he and Lance could be battling it out in training camp for the QB1 spot.

On Friday, 49ers tight end George Kittle was asked about who his pick would be between the two signal-callers.

Via Pro Football Talk:

“That’s the million-dollar question, isn’t it?” Kittle said. “That’s one reason I’m glad I’m not the head coach of the 49ers. That’s all on Coach Shanahan. I’ll give you both ways. Jimmy G, awesome in the huddle, great leader, directs guys. People go to attention when he’s talking. He’s got a quick release, he knows the offense. Like I said, been to two NFC Championship games, knows what he’s doing. Trey Lance can run, extend plays, does all the play-action stuff incredible, could throw the ball 70 yards. I don’t know. It’s a toss-up for me.”

Kittle is torn between the two. The 49ers certainly have two very good QBs at their disposal, but it's frankly unknown who will win the starting job at this point. Lance is a fantastic athlete who has a high ceiling and can make plays with his legs, while Garoppolo possesses tons of experience and just took San Francisco to the NFC Championship Game and one dropped interception away from the Super Bowl.

Needless to say, Kyle Shanahan has some very difficult decisions ahead of him this summer.
