The New York Liberty signed 2020 WNBA Rookie of the Year Crystal Dangerfield to a hardship contract, the team announced Saturday.

Dangerfield, 24, will be with the team Tuesday when it opens a three-game road trip against the Minnesota Lynx.

Dangerfield, a guard, was an immediate hit as a member of the Lynx in 2020 when she averaged 16.2 points and 3.6 assists in 21 games (19 starts) while earning the top rookie honor.

However, her averages dropped to 7.7 points and 2.8 assists in 31 games (10 starts) last season. Minnesota released her shortly before the start of this season.

Dangerfield caught on with the Indiana Fever for three games and averaged 6.0 points and 3.3 assists. But she was released on May 11 when guard Danielle Robinson returned from playing overseas in Turkey.

The Liberty (1-4) have lost four straight games entering the road trip.
