LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Jefferson County coroner has confirmed the identity of a man shot and killed in the Chickasaw neighborhood Friday morning.

Louisville Metro police said an operation led by the U.S. Marshals Service resulted in an officer-involved shooting around 8:40 a.m. in the 800 block of Sutcliffe Ave.

LMPD referred all questions to USMS before revealing the shooting involving the U.S. Marshal will be investigated by the LMPD Public Integrity Unit.

Neighbors who approached WAVE News crews at the scene said a man was shot and killed. They were seen comforting a woman, whom they identified as the mother of the person killed.

The coroner identified the victim as 25-year-old Omari Cryer of Louisville on Saturday.

The crowd was filled with friends and family of the victim. They were looking for answers from law enforcement of why something like this would happen.

“I’m just not understanding why they won’t tell nothing,” Tidshawnda Spence said, referring to officials. “They’re not saying nothing, but police killed another Black person and they’re not telling us anything. When you don’t know anything and your family member is dead, and you’re right here and the mother is here, come on now, just a little compassion. This happened or this happened, they could pull [the mother] to the side and tell just her. They can’t even do that,” Spence said.

People gathered in the alley where the shooting allegedly happened.

“This don’t make no sense,” one man yelled at police. “Y’all ain’t saying nothing,”

People were in tears and comforting one another as more friends and family showed up. Paramedics and an ambulance arrived to treat people who had shortness of breath or dehydration.
