BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Despite medical records making it clear that she was susceptible to bed sores and skin breakdown, a 70-year-old woman was allegedly treated so poorly at Bethesda East Medical Center that her skin deteriorated and she died. Now, her husband is suing on her behalf.

Francine Certani was admitted to Bethesda East on July 20th, 2020 as a ”bed bound patient who suffered from asthma and shortness of breath,” wrote attorneys in the lawsuit just filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court. ”Bethesda knew that Francine was dependent on its nursing and support staff to adequately provide for her care and protection. Bethesda knew that Francine had pressure ulcers on admission and was at risk for skin breakdown. While a patient at its facility, Bethesda failed to adequately assess and monitor her condition, failed to provide routine preventative care, good skin care and appropriate daily care and treatment.”

According to attorneys, the negligence was notable and was killing Francine Certani.

“As a result of Bethesda’s negligence, Francine Certani suffered from progressive skin deterioration, she developed additional pressure sores and serious permanent injuries. Francine Certani died on January 4th, 2021.”

Attorneys argue that had competent nurses routinely turned and repositioned Ms. Certani, and provided adequate wound care, her condition would not have led to her death.

The lawsuit also claims Bethesda Medical Center violated several Florida statues pertaining to medical care. Francis Certani, husband of Francine Certani, is represented by Frank Fernandez of the Fernandez Firm in Tampa.
