Both Abraham goals came following huge mistakes in the Torino defence with the opener in the 33rd minute after the home side gave the ball away in its own half.

Lorenzo Pellegrini found Abraham, who turned Torino defender David Zima inside out before riding a tackle and firing into the bottom right corner.

Abraham doubled his tally after Etrit Berisha tripped the Roma striker - before he struck the resulting penalty coolly down the middle three minutes before halftime.

The Cobham graduate broke the previous record which had belonged to Gerry Hitchens, who scored 16 for Inter Milan back in 1962.

Abraham's former Chelsea teammate Reece James was quick to show support for the 24-year-old in the form of a Tweet.

The Chelsea full-back wrote: 'History made. Most goals by an Englishman in a single Serie A season @tammyabraham.'

James and Abraham graduated through the Chelsea academy together and spent two seasons together in the first team at Stamford Bridge.
