Arsenal fail in ‘monstrous’ Victor Osimhen transfer bid in boost to Man Utd as Napoli hold out on more money

ARSENAL have reportedly had a club-record £76million bid for striker Victor Osimhen rejected by Napoli.

The Gunners have been linked with a move to bring the 23-year-old to the Emirates with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah set to depart as free agents.

It in understood that Mikel Arteta is looking to bring in two centre-forwards, with Manchester City's Gabriel Jesus also a top target.

And the North London outfit are also said to be determined to snap up Osimhen, with Manchester United also eyeing up a potential swoop.

It has been said that Arsenal have already held talks with the agent of the Nigeria international.

Arteta's side have extensively scouted the player this term, with the ex-Lille ace chipping in with 18 goals and six assists in 31 games in all competitions.

And it has been now been reported that Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit of Osimhen.

According to Calciomercato, Napoli have knocked back the club's £76m offer as they hold out for more money.

It has been stated that the Serie A giants will only part ways with the player should they receive a fee in the region of £93m.

The Italian news outlet has claimed that it is possible Arsenal will come back in with a second bid.

They also add that the Red Devils could turn their interest into a formal approach for the former Wolfsburg man.

It has been said that Napoli have already identified Sassuolo star Gianluca Scamacca as a possible replacement for Osimhen.

Speaking last week, Osimhen hinted he wishes to remain at Napoli after discussing his love for boss Luciano Spalletti.

The striker told Radio Kiss Kiss: "I have to thank Spalletti so much.

"He helped me a lot in my growth as a footballer from many points of view, and I have to thank him and his staff for helping me score all these goals.

"They helped me improve my movement. He always talks to me after training and trains me both with and without the ball.

"I know I'm dealing with a very high-level coach, really. It is a great honour and a real pleasure to be trained by him, and I hope to be able to work with him for many more years."
