When shopping for a new truck like the Chevy Silverado 1500, it’s essential to do your research. Know that no truck is perfect, and the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 comes with a few fair warnings from critics. There are potential problems you need to know about. 

Potential 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 problems

According to Pickup Truck Talk, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 has a few problems that buyers should be aware of. However, on a positive note, since General Motors switched to the 10-speed automatic transmission, it has been getting fewer complaints. 

But the engine lifter failure in V8 engines can’t be ignored. Reportedly, 2019 – 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 models have struggled with failing lifters. The system should turn off the cylinders to conserve fuel and open the engine valves. 

The affected valves may lead to random engine stalling, sudden loss of power, and increased engine damage. In some trucks, this issue that’s caused by faulty parts. 

Plus, the 3.0-liter Duramax engine is linked to long-crank and no-start issues. The camshaft wheel could be prone to bending or warping. As a result, it doesn’t come into contact with the right parts. If the engine starts at all, it could take a long time to turn over. 

Replacing this part takes 40 to 50 hours because the truck cab has to be lifted and completely removed. This process can be expensive too. 

Smaller Silverado 1500 problems 

There are a few less severe 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 problems to report. For example, some drivers have struggled with engine stalling, which isn’t related to a huge mechanical headache to fix. 

Also, there are reports of infotainment issues. Could this mean that there is an unknown electrical issue lurking in the wings? If there is, we will probably see more reports of trouble arise. 

Some drivers have noted that the brakes are experiencing minor issues, and the transmission has been lurching. That seems a little concerning, but no recalls have been released for this complaint yet. 

Last but not least, there are five reports of paint quality issues for the 2022 Silverado 1500. It’s probably a bummer to have paint chipping on your brand new truck. 

How reliable is the Chevy Silverado 1500?

According to Consumer Reports, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 has a predicted reliability ranking of one out of five. This is below average, and it’s based on issues reported in previous model years. 

While the 2022 model doesn’t have any recalls, the 2021 model has five. The 2021 and 2022 trucks are basically the same. However, the LTD version is a carryover model, and the other option has a few visual upgrades and an updated interior. 

Two of the recalls corrected problems with tires, and two addressed incorrectly installed seatbelts. One recall was due to the front driver’s side airbag missing metal tags to prevent randomly exploding. 

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has an open investigation at the moment, so another recall could come out. We will keep an eye on how things go. Until then, do your research before picking a truck.
