The Calgary Flames played a much lower-scoring game with the Edmonton Oilers in Game 2 of their playoff series, in that the teams combined for eight goals instead of 15. The Flames had leads of 2-0 and 3-1, but the pesky Oilers kept coming at them. A couple third period breakaways were the difference in a 5-3 Oilers win to tie the best-of-seven series at one game apiece.

Head coach Darryl Sutter
Assessing how the game unfolded: “Exciting game. If we’d had won it, I’d be really happy.”
Assessing his team’s play through two games: “I think we missed a lot of opportunities tonight. I think Markstrom was really really good for us. I think that their individual skill stood out tonight in the situations that they scored on. So that’s something that’s hard to handle, but some of that is not five-on-five; there’s what, a four-on-four goal, five-on-four goal, five-on-four goal for us, shorthanded goal for them. If you’re not playing five-on-five, that’s definitely to their team’s advantage.”
On what the team can do to stay of the box: “Stay out of the box.”
On the shorthanded goal against: “If you get one defenceman, four forwards out there, they got to execute or else it’ll be going the other way, and that’s what happened.”
