The Famous Sault Locks Boat Tours are hosting EUP Family Fun Day this weekend in partnership with Sault Historic Sites

SAULT STE. MARIE — Famous Soo Lock Boat Tours and Sault Historic Sites are teaming up this weekend to bring a fun filled family day to all eastern Upper Peninsula families.

For a donation of any size EUP residents can bring their whole families to visit historically significant sites like the Museum Ship Valley Camp, Tower of History, River of History Museum or take a ride on the Famous Soo Lock Boat Tour. On Sunday, May 22, these groups are teaming up to support a local museum and teach people about the historical sites and tour.

"The idea is to give our Eastern Upper Peninsula residents the chance to really explore all of these attractions and to take a boat tour through the Soo Locks," said Allie Brawley communications director for Famous Soo Lock Boat Tours. "We're hopeful that it provides the opportunity for those that may not have had the chance to check out any of these attractions and because it's nice to support a cause."

All entrance donations will go toward the Soo Lock's Children's Museum, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating kids about the Locks and their importance. The Children's Museum is still under construction not yet open to the public and is asking for donations from the community to get ready to open to the public.

"(The Soo Locks Children's Museum) have been fundraising but it's not open yet, it's in development and we figured it was a great cause to support because the vision of it kind of aligns with the boat tours and historic sites," said Brawley. "To inform and educate and give a an experience through our historic attractions."

On-site in the parking lot between the Valley Camp and Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours will be the food trucks Grandpa’s Mini Donuts and Bob’s Food Trailer, owned by the former owner of Clyde’s Restaurant, to serve visitors.

Visitors over the age of 16 who wish to donate must provide some proof that they are a resident of the EUP such as a drivers license or a piece of mail with their local address on it. Visitors who are not residents of the EUP can still attend but will have to pay the regular admission price.

Museum Ship Valley Camp is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; the Tower of History and River of History Museum are open noon-5 p.m.. Located next to the Valley Camp, Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours will operate tours at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
