Spencer Dinwiddie of the Dallas Mavericks has really come to life since being traded to the team back in February.
He has been averaging 15.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists a game.
He’s also been a big three-point threat for the team, achieving a higher percentage from beyond the three-point line than at any other point in his career.
But the best may be yet to come for Dinwiddie because his Mavericks might make the NBA Finals.
If Dallas ends up winning the title this year, Dinwwidde will receive a little bonus in his pay.
And “little” is the right way to describe it: Dinwiddie has a $1 bonus in his contract if the Mavericks win the title.
The bonus comes from his original contract with the Washington Wizards.
NBA players are known for having odd bonuses written into their deals but this has to be the most bizarre one.
The Dinwiddie Dollar
It hasn’t been made clear how Dinwiddie and his representation decided on a single dollar bonus if his team won the championship.
Obviously, he is receiving a whole lot more than just one dollar.
In fact, he is in the midst of a three-year, $54 million contract that was written up when he was sent from Brooklyn to Washington.
This $1 is definitely one that Dinwiddie wants to win.
It’s not about the money – obviously – but about his team becoming champs.
Dinwiddie slid easily into rotation back in February when he moved to Dallas.
Since then, he has consistently helped his team when they need him most.
During these playoffs, he is putting up an average of 13.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.
He has become a vital part of the team’s lineup and culture and is hopeful he can help them reach the promised land.
If the Mavs win, Dinwiddie’s extra dollar could buy him a celebratory soda.
