Right fielder Alexfri Planez returned from the injured list with a three-run home run in the first inning, and the Captains beat host Cedar Rapids, 5-1, on May 20.
First baseman Joe Naranjo homered for the third straight game, giving him eight for the season. He finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Gavin Williams, the Guardians’ first-round pick in 2021, went 4 2/3 innings. He gave up one run on four hits, struck out seven and walked three. His ERA is 1.54.
Lake County improved to 17-19 and has won three of the first four games of the series. The next game is set for 7:35 p.m., May 21 at Cedar Rapids. Doug Nikhazy is the scheduled starter for Lake County. He’ll be looking for his first win.
