Lexington softball beats Creek Wood in Class 3A sectional, advances to state tournament

LEXINGTON — The Lexington softball team has advanced to the state tournament for the third time in four seasons after it defeated Creek Wood 4-2 on Friday in the Class 3A sectional.

The win marks the Lady Tigers' 25th straight win and moves them to 45-1 on the season.

The Lady Tigers entered the game as MaxPreps' No. 13 team in the country, and remain undefeated (33-0) versus in-state opponents. 

Lexington led 3-0 until the sixth inning when Creek Wood scored twice. The Lady Tigers answered in the bottom of the sixth and added a run.

The Lady Tigers, who were state runner-ups in 2019 and 2021, are expected to compete for another state title this season. 

Mykenzi Duke went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs for the Lady Tigers. 

Creek Wood's Hannah Albert went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
