Star Trek: Strange New Worlds spoilers follow.
The latest episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds unveiled a major twist for Number One/Una (Rebecca Romijn).
The Enterprise travelled to Hetemit 9, an abandoned colony settled by the Illyrians who live as outcasts from the federation for modifying their genes. As the crew investigated the colony, a virus swept through the ship, with everyone except Una falling extremely ill while Pike and Spock were stuck on the planet.
It was later revealed why Una hadn't fallen as ill as the rest of the crew – she's Illyrian and her genetic modification allowed her body to cure itself.

Regarding the reveal, showrunner Henry Alonso Myers spoke to TVLine about the character's latest twist.
"You're treading into difficult waters anytime you add something to this," he said when talking about the complexity of expanding the Star Trek cannon.
He added: "We knew that the episode would be a big Una episode, and we wanted to reveal something to the audience about her. It was a lot about defining who she is on this show and what kind of stories we can tell with her."

Myers also discussed Una's developing relationship with Dr M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun), who revealed that he's searching for a cure for his daughter Rukiya while secretly keeping her in a buffer. She is suffering from the disease cygnokemia and while she's in the buffer her disease can't progress.
"It's more about watching Una and M'Benga come together and come to understand each other," he added.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is streaming on Paramount+ in the US. It will premiere in the UK with the launch of Paramount+ there on June 22.
