1. Teen arrested in connection with shooting death of 11-year-old Bronx girl: NYPD

Police officers arrested the 15-year-old boy in connection with the shooting death of Kyhara Tay early Friday morning. The teen has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said. 

A spokesperson for the Bronx District Attorney told NY1 the 15-year-old was arraigned Friday afternoon in the youth part of criminal court, and pleaded not guilty.

2. De Blasio announces run for Congress

Former Mayor Bill de Blasio is running for Congress.

De Blasio plans to run in the proposed 10th congressional district, which includes Lower Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn, he announced Friday morning.

3. As Adams takes crypto losses, will he double down on blockchain tech?

Mayor Eric Adams’ cryptocurrency portfolio – alongside those of nearly every other investor in digital coins – has taken a substantial hit this year.

Ahead of taking office, Adams pledged to take his first three paychecks in cryptocurrency, using an app to automatically invest his net take-home pay in bitcoin and ethereum, two of the most popular digital currencies.

Adams’ crypto portfolio has likely lost about 30% of its value, given the losses to bitcoin and ethereum, though Adams has not disclosed how much of each cryptocurrency he purchased, and whether he has bought more or sold them off. 

4. CDC: 54 of New York's 62 counties have 'high' COVID-19 community levels

Residents in nearly all counties in New York state are being recommended to wear masks due to high COVID-19 case counts, continuing a trend seen since mid-April, according to new data released Friday from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

As of Friday, 54 of the state's 62 counties are now classified by the CDC as having "high" community levels of the coronavirus, up from 45 a week ago.

5. NYPD unveils plaques honoring Detectives Jason Rivera, Wilbert Mora

The NYPD on Friday unveiled a pair of plaques dedicated to fallen Detectives Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora, who were shot and killed in Harlem in January. 

The department added plaques honoring Rivera, 22, and Mora, 27, to a Line of Duty Death Memorial Wall inside Harlem’s 32nd Precinct, where Rivera and Mora were stationed. 

6. Broadway extends masking requirements through June

Broadway's masking policy will be extended through the end of June, the Broadway League announced Friday.

The League said the owners and operators of all 41 Broadway theaters will extend the current mask requirement for all audience members over the age of 5 through at least June 30.

Couple to celebrate 5th wedding anniversary during Brooklyn Half Marathon

There is a pretty spot in Prospect Park that is special for Alex Salazar and Krissa Cetner of Brooklyn. Five years ago, they were married there, at Mile 6 of the RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon, which they were running that day.

On Saturday, when the half marathon returns, the couple will celebrate their fifth anniversary by running again.
