SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) — A fire broke out near 7th Street and B Street, in the Railyards area north of downtown Sacramento, Friday afternoon.
The fire burned through grassy areas and drew a large response from firefighters, with multiple fire engines at the scene.
In a tweet published at 5:31 pm, the Sacramento Fire Department said, “The vegetation fire near North 7th Street and North B Street has been contained and is standing at 45 acres…The fire began from mowing being conducted in the area.”
“The terrain that’s here as you can see, it’s multiple vacant lots where numerous development has been started. So there’s multiple hills; it’s hard for us to get through, but because of the natural barrier of the railroad that went through there, there’s a 20-foot wide gravel path we’re able to contain the fire,” Assistant Fire Chief Scott Williams said.
Earlier in the day, a fire broke out in Rio Linda that burned through vegetation and multiple structures, according to Metro Fire.
The Dunnigan Fire also broke out Friday afternoon in a grassy area of Yolo County near the community of Zamora.
In Yuba County, the Golden Fire caused authorities to issue evacuation orders for residences near the community of Camptonville.
This Thursday and Friday, the National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning due to gusty winds and dry conditions in the Sacramento Valley area. The Warning is in effect until 8:00 pm this Friday.
