Even after the Indianapolis Colts traded for one-time NFL MVP winner Matt Ryan earlier in the offseason, they could be on the verge of hauling in another former MVP. This time around, the Colts are aiming to reunite head coach Frank Reich with Super Bowl 52 MVP winner Nick Foles.

As noted by the NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo, the Colts are working to sign Foles. No deal has been reached between the two sides, although they are slated to continue to engage in talks. There is an expectation that an agreement will be finalized “early next week.”

Foles was linked with the Colts last year, but he wound up staying put with the Chicago Bears. He featured in a mere one game over the 2021 campaign, as now-former Bears head coach Matt Nagy rolled out Justin Fields to be the starter at the quarterback position and called on Andy Dalton to serve as the primary backup.

The Bears made a push to find a trade suitor for Foles early in the offseason, but they ultimately failed to complete such a move. Bears general manager Ryan Poles later granted the veteran quarterback his release.

Earlier this month, Reich was asked about the possibility of the team signing Foles, which comes as he served as the passer's offensive coordinator during the Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl-winning run in the 2017 campaign. Reich opted to not provide a pinpoint answer on this matter but rather noted that the Colts are “always looking at who makes this team better, at every position.”

As it stands, the Colts have four quarterbacks on the roster, including Sam Ehlinger and Jack Coan.
