Cleveland County Habitat for Humanity plan another Women Build for June in Shelby

Special to The Star
Women Build projects will be held across the nation in June.

Cleveland County Habitat for Humanity is planning for the 31st Women Build.

First held in 1991, Women Build reinforces the message that every woman can make a difference through learning and using construction skills, said local leadership.

More than 98,000 women from all 50 states have volunteered at the previous National Women Build Week events. Women Build opportunities are available across the U.S., and any woman who wants to learn how to build and construct a home is invited to join. No experience is necessary.

Volunteers work under the guidance of construction professionals, and also alongside other volunteers and future Habitat homeowners.

"Whether you are learning new skills or simply adding a few to your tool belt, this is a rewarding experience for all involved, and improves the community that you share," read a press release from the local organization.

Volunteers can participate individually or with a group.

Participants must be 16 or older.

The group will work June 4 and June 18 assembling and raising walls at a property on Churchill Drive in Shelby.

As part of the work, there will be basic hammer training for those who want to practice.
