Coroner identifies Peoria pedestrian killed when hit by a vehicle

PEORIA – A 37-year-old man was identified as the pedestrian killed in a traffic accident on Thursday.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Jeremiah J. Burgess, of Northeast Adams Street, was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Northeast Jefferson Street and Abington shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday morning.

An autopsy showed Burgess suffered severe, multiple blunt force trauma injuries as a result of being struck by the vehicle.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Peoria Police Department. It is unknown at this time who the driver was, or if any citations were issued.

The driver of the vehicle was cooperating with law enforcement, the coroner said.
