Phoenix Symphony

The Phoenix Symphony closes its season this weekend.

The Phoenix Symphony will close out its 75th season this weekend with two performances which include local teen cellist Vincent Claes and violinist Jonathan Okseniuk.

Its music director Tito Muñoz said Ludwig van Beethoven’s "Ninth Symphony" will be performed and is thematically relevant.

“It utilizes our Phoenix Symphony Chorus as well. It’s a symphony with a chorus and with vocal soloists and it talks about brotherhood. It talks about coming together as humans for humanity and so it’s very poignant right now obviously with all the turmoil going on in the world. You have this war in Ukraine,” he said.

The Symphony will also perform Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man.” According to a separate release, the piece was "inspired by a 1942 speech by then Vice President Henry Wallace proclaiming the 'century of the common man.'" 

The first performance is 2 p.m. Saturday followed by an encore at 7:30 in the evening.

Patrons must wear face coverings to attend, but proof of vaccination is not required.
