KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Kingsport police say one person is dead after a shooting involving two truck drivers on Interstate 81.

It happened around 4:45 p.m. near Exit 63, the Airport Parkway exit.

The Kingsport Police Department confirmed that Alex Erik Miller, 42 of Edgewood, Maryland, was fatally shot by another tractor-trailer driver, whose name has not been released by police.

Police said two tractor-trailers were traveling north toward Exit 63 when they came into contact with one another. After both drivers pulled their vehicles to the side of the interstate, the situation escalated and Miller was fatally shot. Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

According to the police department, the other driver is cooperating with the investigation.

The police department said detectives will share their findings with the district attorney to determine what, if any, criminal charges may be filed.
