A Lorain County prosecutor said May 20 he wants the court to revoke the bond of James Lavern Kimbrough III.

Kimbrough, 35, of Lorain, is accused in the Jan. 6 fatal shooting Milenna Lopez, 24, a mother of four children, including two with Kimbrough, in Sheffield Village.

The shooting occurred at a McDonald’s restaurant where Lopez was working but outside in her vehicle taking a break, police said.

Kimbrough was indicted May 13 by a Lorain County grand jury on one count of aggravated murder; three separate murder charges, each with different legal specifications; two counts of felonious assault; tampering with evidence; having weapons while under disability and violation of a protection order, all felony charges of varying degrees, according to court records.

The Avon Lake Municipal Court set a $1 million bond in the case last month before the case was bound over.

At a hearing presided over by Lorain County Common Pleas Judge D. Chris Cook, Kimbrough pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Cook continued the bond.

However, Assistant Lorain County Prosecutor Paul Griffin filed a motion to revoke Kimbrough’s bond.

“We will have a bond hearing on the state’s motion and any modifications the defendant may see,” Cook ruled.

“All parties, whether they’re Marsy’s Law individuals (Marsy’s Law for Ohio protects rights of victims of violent crime), the defendant or the state will address bond,” the judge said.

The hearing is scheduled for June 9.

Lorain attorney Michael Stepanik represented Kimbrough at the May 20 hearing.

Kimbrough is facing a number of other charges in connection to the troubled romantic relationship between he and Lopez over several years.

Some of those charges include domestic violence, kidnapping, endangering children as well as others, according to court records.

After the shooting in January, Kimbrough fled authorities until he was arrested April 16 in Lorain.

He was considered one of the area’s most wanted fugitives until his capture.
