Charles City Prepares for RAGBRAI…..and Mother Nature

Hosting some 20, 000 RAGBRAI riders for the overnight stay on July 28th in Charles City is a challenge in and of itself. Imagine if a severe thunderstorm or tornado is added to the mix.

Tom Bock and Drew Mitchell head up the Charles City RAGBRAI severe weather preparedness committee.

Bock says they have churches and several large facilities ready to shelter riders in the event Mother Nature wheels in with wild weather.

Bock adds that monitoring the weather for RAGBRAI is a round-the-clock endeavor.

Bike rider or not, Mitchell, also the Floyd County Emergency Management Director, advises getting signed up for Alert Iowa, the statewide emergency notification system, which can be customized to your area.
