Nebraska Parents Warned About Child ‘Sextortion’ Schemes

By Tom Stanton May 20, 2022 | 3:57 PM

A warning to parents from Nebraska law enforcement officials.  Be on the lookout for internet blackmailers trying to deceive children into sending them sexually explicit photos and videos.

This scheme is known as “sextortion” and it is a serious crime according to the Nebraska State Patrol and Nebraska Attorney General’s Office.  They say the internet blackmailers pose as close-in-age peers or love interests on social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram or gaming apps.

They convince youth into sending them sexually explicit photos and videos.  Parents or guardians of child victims are urged to report sextortion cases to the FBI Omaha office at 402-493-8688 or call the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.
