Flames cancel outdoor viewing party for Game 2, change Game 3 plans due to winter weather

The Calgary Flames intended to follow in the footsteps of other NHL and NBA teams during the ongoing postseason and allow fans to enjoy a massive viewing party outside of the Scotiabank Saddledome during playoff games. 

Unfortunately for Calgary, the weather is not cooperating. 

According to Kristen Shilton of ESPN, the Flames scrapped plans for their outdoor party scheduled to occur during Friday's Game 2 of their second-round playoff series against the Edmonton Oilers because inclement weather caused damage to the event's site. Additionally, more snow and poor conditions are expected to impact the region later on Friday. 

For Sunday's Game 3 in Edmonton, the Flames are opening the Scotiabank Saddledome to fans for an indoor viewing party that will be free to attend. Per information shared on the Flames' website, the venue will operate at a reduced capacity on Sunday. 

Calgary defeated Edmonton 9-6 in a thrilling series opener on Wednesday evening. Shilton notes that the cheapest seats available on resale outlets for Game 2 were listed at over $350 as of Friday afternoon. 

The Flames aren't the only North American sports entity impacted by winter weather days before the United States begins the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Friday evening's game between the New York Mets and Colorado Rockies was snowed out, and wintry conditions may prevent the clubs from facing each other on Saturday.
