With Thursday’s walk-off home run, Pete Alonso took the league RBI lead right back from Giancarlo Stanton, having now driven in 36 runs on the season.

He also boasts 10 home runs, is batting a career-best .276, has a career-best 151 OPS+, and has the lowest ground ball rate of his career.

It’s still early in the season, but Alonso is showing that he has the complete package, and boasts all the tools necessary to be a fixture in the middle of the Mets lineup for years to come.

“I feel like I’m having a pretty complete year,” Alonso said. “I just want to keep capitalizing in my zone.”

Alonso has certainly been picking his pitches and doing damage this season, currently tied for the National League lead in home runs, and is in the top 10 in OPS, runs scored, and runs created. The offense will need to pick things up with the rotation depth taking a hit due to injuries, and Alonso is more than capable of leading that charge, especially with the way he is swinging the bat of late.

“I want to keep taking pitches that aren’t [strikes],” Alonso said. “Even if they’re strikes, I want to be able to hone in, continue to hone in on what I’m trying to do up there and not deviate and give into the pitcher’s plans.

“I just want to keep trying to master consistency.”
