Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse and Colgate have scheduled a men’s basketball game for November 15 in the JMA Wireless Dome.

The teams have met 173 times in the past; the Raiders are SU’s longest-tenured rivals. They’ve played each other 27 of the last 28 years, pausing only in 2020 because the Patriot League forbade non-conference games for its members.

Colgate has become the best team in the Patriot League under Matt Langel, who signed a contract extension through 2030 in March. Colgate has been to three NCAA tournaments in the past four years, winning the Patriot League’s automatic bid on those occasions.

The Raiders were 23-12 last year and 16-2 in the Patriot League. They lose standout point guard Nelly Cummings, who will play a graduate season in 2022-23 in his hometown for the University of Pittsburgh. Colgate beat Syracuse last season with Cummings and Jack Ferguson combining for 43 points on 12-of-26 shooting from the 3-point line.

Syracuse, 16-17 last year, returns four players from that team (Jesse Edwards, Joe Girard, Symir Torrence, Benny Williams) and a host of new possibilities, including six freshmen in a Class of 2022 that has been lauded nationally. The Orange, too, recently signed Duquesne transfer Mounir Hima.

As for what’s also known about the SU schedule, the Orange will play Lehigh Nov. 7 at home. Syracuse will participate in the Empire Classic (Temple, Richmond, St. John’s) on Nov. 21-22 at the Barclays Center. And Jon Rothstein has reported that SU will play Bryant on Nov. 26; that game would mark the homecoming of Liverpool’s Charles Pride.
