A suspect is dead after a disturbance call leads to an officer involved shooting in Polk County Thursday night, the Arkansas State Police reported.
According to the press release, 40-year-old Rickey Looney of Mena was shot by responding sheriff's deputies after he pointed a gun at one of the three officers while ordering them to leave his property.
The Polk County Sheriff's Department were responding to Looney's home after a woman reported she had accidentally shot him with a pistol while attempting to leave after an argument between the two of them, state police reported.
Police said Looney was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he later died.
An investigation into the use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer is being conducted by special agents of the ASP Criminal Investigation Division.
The ASP said the identity of the officer who shot Looney is not being released at this time.
