Conveniently located on Rt. 885 near the PAT bus garage, Ham & Eggers is a great neighborhood diner that sits on the busy road just above several neighborhoods.

So many nice people started their day by stopping by and saying ‘hello’ this morning.  I truly appreciate it. Thank you!  Owners Warren & Candace Jackson are an extremely active couple and some of the best people our community offers.

Along with Ham & Eggers in West Mifflin, which is open every day from 6a-2p, they also operate Breathe Easy Independent Living Services, One Way Entertainment Musick, and New Vision Ministries in Wilkinsburg.

Warren also coaches youth basketball and football for their 3 children.  As I said: extremely busy couple!  However, they take it all in stride and do not seem stressed.  They are thankful to, and put their trust and faith in, the Lord.  “We’re Blessed,” they both quickly and proudly proclaim.

Candace had to leave our show about half way through.  She got a call that a needy resident of the area was in need and had not had personal care for 4 days.

Candace sprung to action to serve.  Warren & crew in the kitchen keep the meals moving out to the hungry patrons.  He had been a chef at big-time establishments but rules changed during COVID-19.

He could not sit around at home during the lockdowns so he started working at the diner.  A few months later, in January of 2021, he and Candace bought the business.

As a testament to their leadership, guidance, vision, and friendliness most of the old staff stayed on - and a few new faces have joined the team.

Ham & Eggers is a large diner…. classic look with one interesting character: Artwork. The dining room wall is full of the work of local artists.  See a painting that interests you?  Simply add it to your bill and take it home!

It was great to catch up with Mayor Chris Kelly.  He has some great stories about life in the area and about growth.

West Mifflin is a large and diverse borough full of bustling businesses.  It has pretty much everything: Affordable housing, food, faith, and everything else from Kennywood to the US Steel Mon Valley Works, the Bettis plant, the county airport and two colleges.

Yes, CCAC and PIA.  Both offer students economical options to big, expensive schools.  Thanks to Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics CEO Suzanne Markle and VP of Operations Steven Sabold for stopping by.

PIA has been a part of aviation for over 90 years.  It ensures that there are enough highly trained, certified individuals to keep America’s aviation industry flying.

Regional pride note: PIA ranks #1 as the best trade school in the country according to Forbes magazine.  The return on investment for students is mind-boggling.

The H&E menu is extensive, creative and, keeping in line with the community, economical.  I enjoyed the enormous pancake (one is PLENTY) although the meat lovers omelet had my name on it!  Next time.  The menu also caters to the aggressive.  If you are hungry and, in a hurry, wow, Ham & Eggers is for you!

Chef Warren has a challenge for you.  The 5-pound burrito with spicy sausage, sweet sausage, peppers, onions, potatoes, eggs, topped with Queso cheese.  Finish in 10 minutes and it is free!

They take great care of their customers.  What else would you expect from a couple that was “raised on sweet tea & Jesus.”
