Comcast is expanding its network of services to include areas of Exeter and Amity townships and St. Lawrence in Berks County and Honey Brook Borough in Chester County. The company will add more than 18,000 customers across the four municipalities.

In Exeter and St. Lawrence, Comcast said it will make its full suite of Xfinity and Comcast Business services available to 8,300 additional residents.

The process to extend Comcast’s fiber-rich network is underway, with the first new Exeter Township customers expected to have service available this fall and the entire project to be completed by the end of 2023.

The company did not provide specific areas that are impacted. However, residents in areas that are part of the expansion have received door hangers with information over the past two weeks. They will receive direct mail once Comcast is closer to signing up customers. At least one area that is impacted is the Farming Ridge development in Exeter.

“We are proud to extend our advanced, fiber-rich network deeper into Berks County,” said Greg Wells, vice president of sales & marketing for Comcast’s Keystone Region, which serves customers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio. “And we are committed to continue innovating around our entire suite of products and investing in our network as we know customers rely on us to keep them connected at home and on the go.”

Comcast has franchise agreements in the municipalities and currently serves customers in Exeter Township, although the company could not say how many. The company said it is always looking for additional areas to provide services where there is a clear customer demand.

“Having more choice for reliable, fast Internet connections is important to all our residents, and we look forward to more of them having access to the Comcast network,” St. Lawrence Mayor Barrie Kinsey said in a statement.

Beginning this fall, prospective customers can call 1-800-XFINITY to inquire about service, or ask about the federal government’s Affordable Connectivity Program, which provides eligible households with up to $30 a month toward their Internet and mobile service.

Amity Township

Comcast also plans to expand its network in Amity Township later this year, delivering its full suite of services to 8,000 residential and business customers. This project is not as far along as Exeter Township, according to the company, with construction scheduled to begin in a couple of months.

Comcast will keep Amity Township residents and businesses informed about when services will be available at their addresses. The company also offers a dedicated site, https://www.welcome2xfinity.com/, for interested residents to learn more about products and services and to sign up for updates.

Honey Brook Borough

In Chester County, Comcast is building out its network to Honey Brook Borough to reach an additional 2,000 residences and businesses. Comcast services are already available to residences and businesses in Honey Brook Township.

Construction in that area is well underway, according to the company, and Comcast has begun signing up customers. Work is expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter 2022.

“Comcast is committed to helping close the digital divide by bringing fast, reliable and affordable connectivity to more communities across the country, and here in Pennsylvania,” said Dennis Mathew, senior vice president of Comcast’s Freedom Region.

Honey Brook Borough Mayor Maria Downey said the expansion gives residents another option when selecting an internet provider.

“This expansion will make Honey Brook an even more attractive place to live and work by ensuring access to a reliable network for everyone, which is more important than ever,” she said in a statement.

Between 2017 and 2021, Comcast said it has invested nearly $20 billion to grow its national network and has built 50,000 new route miles of fiber into its network. And Comcast customers have been able to enjoy speed increases at no additional cost, the most recent of which was announced this year, according to the company.

Comcast is also committed to advancing digital equity in the communities it serves. The company has brought 18 Lift Zones to Berks County, providing free WiFi service to local community centers to promote digital learning. Lift Zones are part of Project UP.

According to the company, residents can visit their local Xfinity Retail Store in Wyomissing, Pottstown or Exton to learn more about products and services.
