Gio isn't sweating Max Scherzer injury, because 'In Buck We Trust'

The Mets didn’t get good news on the Max Scherzer front on Thursday, but Gio isn’t sweating it as much as he might have in years past.

Why? Because of who is sitting in the manager’s office.

“For  whatever reason, when I heard the news, of course I was bummed about it,” Gio said during Friday’s show. “But it just does feel different.

“The way that Buck Showalter talked about this makes me feel at ease.”

Gio certainly wouldn’t have felt this sense of comfort when Luis Rojas was running the show, because he never believed Rojas, or a lot of other managers in the game, are actually running it.

“For years, we saw this trend in baseball where, and a lot of teams still do it, where you get an extension of the general manager, some puppet sitting in the dugout that’s just there to spit out stats and look at a book and figure out what’s going on, and gets the lineup told to him by a bunch of dweebs with laptops,” Gio said.

“You got used to that. But not with Buck. Buck’s got control of this thing, and has done a tremendous job with this franchise so far, so in Buck we trust, as we navigate through these muddy waters.”
