I never understand this criticism, Lewis was created solely for this storyline, it’s not as if they changed his character, plus I must be the only one who finds Lewis creepy, he had no problem in kissing Ben even though he was married

He's facial expressions gives vibes of that gay who harassed whitney couple years ago, Tony's son

Oates just us wants to feel sorry for Ben, hence why she has made Ben the victim when the story could have gone to Jay or Vinny and yes I know they are not Gay but Rape is about Power not sexual orientation.
Ben like Jean is getting far too much airtime in my opinion.

I'm sorry, but regardless of what you think of the story - and I'm not a fan myself, I think they're heaping too much trauma onto Ben without ever allowing him to deal with it and move on - that first part is just not true. It's been made clear from interviews/quotes that they wanted to explore the issue of rape/sexual assault within the gay male community, because it's a subject that's still kind of taboo and rarely depicted. And those survivors deserve to have their stories told as much as anyone else does.
The majority of adult male victims of rape or assault aren't straight men being ambushed by some stranger in a dark alley, it's gay and bisexual men being assaulted by other gay and bisexual men within the community. And if that's the story you want to tell, then Ben is really the only possible EE character you can do it with, because of his history and his own promiscuous past.
Re the thread topic, absolutely baffled that people think Lewis had any kind of potential as a character. I want EE to improve its LGBT+ representation, don't get me wrong! But Lewis was brought in entirely for this storyline, it's the only reason he exists. He'd only appeared in about three scenes before the story was announced, and he's been giving out red flags from the start. He's nosy, overly friendly and familiar, and kept flirting with Ben - even kissing him - even though Ben had made it clear he was married and not interested. Plus him giving Ben an alibi when he barely knew him and had no idea what he'd done was just weird! A lot of us picked up at the time that there was something a bit off about him, even before we knew where it was going.

Yes it could but in that case Lewis wouldnt have been their in the first place.
If Callum was played by a stronger actor, then he would be a better candidate for this storyline but he simply doesn’t have the acting chops to pull off such a serious and sensitive storyline.

Agreed Max Bowden is s decent Actor it's just Ben is so overexposed as a Character.

You make some valid and well rounded points and sadly the lack of Gay Male Characters in the Show means that Ben is the only option and we know Max Bowden is a far superior Actor to Tony Clay which is probably why Ben was chosen and also let's not forget Ben is Oates Favourite Character but the fact we dont have enough LGBTQI characters in the first place is also a questionable.
They have potential to go down the route of getting inside of the mind of a rapist. Sex crimes have the lowest rate of reddening. Let's see the therapy he receives, settling into a community etc
Although it might not work because he would have to move out of Walford so we would need a separate spin off show for him. If he ends up back in the square it might be too unrealistic.
They can’t ruin a character that was brought in solely to be a rapist. He was created to play the exact part that is playing
I agree that it's high time this storyline was aired on EE, the concern is that EE will keep on portraying Gsy Men as predators and victims with no real sense of happiness or purpose.

I think most of us are adult enough to realise that EE is not a reflection of real life. If people really do look at EE portrayal of gay characters and think thats how it is in real life, do they think the same of other characters?
As a gay man my life is so totally different from the gay characters in EE but over my lifetime I have faced many of the issues that have been raised. I guess those issues are just more condensed in the soap as really soaps arent about everyday life, happy families and the reality of the general rather mundane work/home lifestyles we mostly lead.

He had potential.
Agreed but he had potential and they ruined it by making him a rapist.
No, he was brought in to be a rapist

Yeah, he’s a charming sexual predator.
I could say the same with Danielle, she had potential as a Mitchell but end of the day she was just a plot device like Lewis is now
for King Ben!!!
That is my sentiment exactly @Matt35
