JACKSON, MI – Charges against a man accused of shooting at two people in Jackson have been dropped after the alleged victims failed to appear for trial.
Derek Pussehl, 33, was scheduled to begin a jury trial May 18 before Jackson County Circuit Judge Edward Grant. Pussehl was charged with single felony counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, felony firearms and carrying a concealed weapon.

Pussehl’s case was dismissed by Grant this week after the alleged victims did not appear for the trial, court officials said. The victims also have not been in contact with the Jackson Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, officials said.
The charges stemmed from an incident on April 10, 2019, when Pussehl allegedly shot at two people near E. South Street and Sunnyside Court in Jackson. No one was injured in the shooting.
Pussehl later told police he thought he shot three times, according to police testimony. Pussehl shot toward the ground, not the vehicle or people, police said.
There had been multiple threatening Facebook messages between one of the alleged victims and Pussehl involving pictures of guns before the shooting, police said.
The case has been dismissed and closed, though the prosecutor’s office would be able to recharge the case if the victim’s choose to move forward with the file, officials said.
