DETROIT (WWJ) -- Michigan State and Detroit police worked together to track down a suspect who led officers on a car chase through the city's west side Friday morning.

According to Michigan State Police, at approximately 6:25 a.m., an officer attempted to pull over a driver in a stolen SUV after he ran a red light near West Grand Boulevard and Linwood.

The 27-year-old pulled over but was ignoring commands from officers to turn the car off and put the keys out the window. He ended up fleeing the traffic stop.

The sergeant pursued the suspect, who attempted to drive through a vacant lot at Wabash near Marquette. The suspect's black Chevy Trailblazer sustained two flat tires and headed east on Marquette and then south on Vermont.

Speeds never reached anywhere above 45 MPH.

He ended up jumping out of the car on Vermont Street, south of Marquette Street, fleeing on foot.

Police said they lost track of the suspect, but found a location in a vacant lot where someone had been lying in the tall grass.

Troopers said they followed the path in the grass to a vacant home at 6050 Wabash. The suspect was found hiding upstairs in the abandoned home.

The suspect was handcuffed without incident and is currently in police custody while charges are pending.
