A Hawley man has been found guilty of stealing catalytic converters and trespassing by a Wayne County jury.
The Wayne County DA's Office says 46-year-old Roy Wayde Tigue was found guilty of driving with a suspended license.
Troopers say that around 4:30 PM on October 12, 2020, officials were called to the 100 block of White Mills road for a call that Tigue was trespassing and stealing catalytic converters on a property that had prominent 'NO TRESPASSING' signs.
The victim told State Police that he and his granddaughter hear a metallic grinding noise when they saw the suspect standing between 2 SUVs on the property. They chased him away and Tigue fled the scene in a pickup truck toward the Owego Turnpike according to the victim.
Tigue left his tools at the scene near a vehicle that was in the air on a car jack, according to the press release.
The victim told police that as he approached the vehicle Tigue fled from, he noticed that a portion of the exhaust which was consistent with the location of the catalytic converter was missing from the vehicle.
Tigue was eventually apprehended at the intersection of White Mills Road and the Owego Turnpike.
He is being held at the Wayne County Correctional Facility for the theft and pending matters including DUI, receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia, and scattering rubbish.
Tigue is set to be sentenced on June 23rd.
