MOUNT VERNON — A 30-year-old Mount Vernon man was killed late Thursday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash on Ohio 3 near Monroe Township Road 267, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at 5:24 p.m., troopers said.

The patrol said Jacob D. Donalon was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse southwest on Ohio 3.

Donalon drove off the right side of the road, back onto the road, across the centerline and off the left side of the road. The vehicle then struck an embankment and a tree before overturning.

Troopers said Donalon was pronounced dead at the scene. Donalon was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to the patrol.

The patrol was assisted by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Mount Vernon Fire/EMS, Monroe Township Fire/EMS and the Knox County Coroner’s Office.

The traffic crash remains under investigation by the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
