Senate candidate announces priorities if elected

Staff report

State Rep. TC Clements (R), the 56th district representative for much of Monroe County and state senate candidate for the new 16th District, said he is excited to working on behalf of residents in Hillsdale County.

The New 16th District includes much of the county.

“Having a portion of three counties in this newly-created senate district will allow me a broader perspective from which to work on behalf of my neighbors," Clements said. "But, as all rural and border counties, our shared needs and concerns often connect.”

Clements is a former deputy chief of police, small business owner and chief operations officer for a manufacturing firm.

“My neighbors want better government, not bigger and I am fighting for them,” he said.

“My neighbors understand, respect and honor we the people," Clements said. "Faith, family and freedom are not talking points. They are how we live our lives. I committed to be a voice for my neighbors and the opportunity to fight for them in the Senate is one that I take seriously. Lower taxes, less regulation, safe communities, great schools and for government to just let them live their lives is all that most of my neighbors want. That is what I have been and will continue to fight for. The addition of another conservative county to this Senate district is exciting.”

When asked what priorities he had if elected, Clements said, “We will continue to fight for additional money for infrastructure and roads. We will partner and be a loud voice for our agricultural community. We will continue to work on real-world improvements in our education system and we will fight to ensure our communities are safe, well protected and continue to enjoy strong and talented heroes in our first responders and medical community.

“I was raised to believe that we have two choices about things that come before us. We can do something about it, or we can be quiet. When it comes to the future of our state for my children and my community, I could not, and will not be quiet," he said.

Clements has had a  role in the House of Representatives pro-law enforcement legislation that provided overdue resources to aid those in emergency services in doing their jobs. He has worked on legislation that would create grant funding to allow EMT’s/paramedics to defer the cost of their education and receive a salary while going to school.

“We must ensure that when our neighbors call 911, well trained responders can be there quickly. With an aging population, and growing dependency on our emergency response systems, this will become an ever-increasing need in most communities,” Clements said. “Make no mistake, everything in our community…the quality of schools, the economic development, and the enjoyment of our property values, rests on its safety and security. I spent my entire time in law enforcement helping victims get justice over those that took advantage of them. As an elected voice of my neighbors, I bring the same passion. Given my background I am reflective of my neighbors and effective for them.”

Prior to being elected in 2020, Clements was a Bedford Township trustee for four years and also served around the county on the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce, Habitat for Humanity, Monroe County Pillar Team, and Bedford Business Association board of directors. He has been married for 18 years and is the father of a 21, 11 and 9 year old.
