A former utility clerk for the town of Man was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to stealing thousands of dollars from the town, state officials said.
Sherry Sansom, 51, of Accoville is accused of falsifying accounts to steal utility deposits she collected for the town of Man while she was a clerk for about five years, a news release from the West Virginia Auditor’s Office said.
Sansom was sentenced to seven years of supervised probation and ordered to pay the town $166,096 in restitution.
The auditor’s prosecution team, which handled the case, said Sansom has since expressed remorse and blamed her use of prescription painkillers as the catalyst for the thefts.
Attorneys requested the probation as they said Sansom entered rehabilitation immediately after the crimes were discovered.
