Led by star quarterback Joe Burrow, the Cincinnati Bengals emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the AFC North, securing their first division title since the 2015 season. Not only that, but Cincinnati advanced to the Super Bowl, where they were eventually bested by the Los Angeles Rams.
However, the season was a very big step in the right direction for a franchise that had endured five straight losing campaigns and had become a punching bag in their division.
In fact, the Bengals didn't back down from their rivals, as they went 4-2 within their division, including two wins over the Baltimore Ravens. In a recent podcast, Burrow revealed the spicy reason why he loves playing the Ravens.
“I love playing the Ravens because they talk. I love that,” he said on a Bengals podcast.
Burrow said that he “loves playing the Ravens because they talk.” The Bengals star feels that he feeds off of the chatter and smack talk, which fires him up.
There's certainly no disputing that, given the fact that Burrow threw for 941 yards and seven touchdowns in the two contests against the Ravens.
There was some chatter off the field between the two squads too, as the Bengals signal-caller admitted he was fueled by comments made by Baltimore defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale, who had said that the league wasn't “ready to put a gold jacket on Joe” when asked if his team would defend Burrow similarly to Green Bay Packers star Aaron Rodgers, who the team had faced the previous week.
