An Onslow County teen, who was shot in the head during a hunting accident, is on the road to recovery.
Bryson Capps' parents said every day he is making progress, but they still have a long way to go.
All around Onslow County, you’ll see green bows and signs with a simple message to "Pray for Bryson Capps."
"Don’t think your life can’t change, truly in a blink of an eye, your life can change,” Bryson's mother, Michelle Capps said.
Change is now the new normal for the Capps family as Bryson works though a traumatic brain injury and short-term memory loss at a recovery center in Atlanta, Georgia.
“He has had to overcome a lot. When we came here, he could not talk, he couldn’t sit up, he couldn’t feed himself, so we have made progress,” she said.
Capps said these are just baby steps in the marathon as Bryson will likely come home in a wheelchair and they are looking for ways now to make accommodations for his return home.
“Our house has to be modified before we bring Bryson home. Things we didn’t think about, like we don’t have doors that are accessible for a wheelchair,” she said.
People in the community said they are standing behind this family and plan to holding a BBQ benefit Friday May 20, 2022.
“The Capps have helped many times in other benefits, of course not knowing that they would someday need help, so this benefit is the least we can do, we love you and we are here for you,” Jay King said.
The Capps family said they can’t thank their community and support system enough for what they have done during this difficult time.
“We thank the community, our family and friends, people all around for their generosity, their prayers and their thoughts," Bryson's father, Darrell Capps said.
The Capps family said Bryson has been accepted into a new rehab program he will start this week in Atlanta and he is expected to be home in about four weeks.
