Go Inside Rick Owens’s Minimalist, Brutalist Home—and Closet

Many have gotten glimpses of Rick Owens’s spacious home in Corcordia, Italy, through the designer’s Instagram and videos. The top-floor apartment, with travertine walls and an expansive in-home gym, has become foundational to Owens’s creative process and work, set up near his factory and production in the Northern Italian village. “When I am in Concordia I am focused on creating,” he tells Vogue. “This is a period of rigor and a period of training.”

Still, a little gorgeous excess can’t hurt. In the latest episode of Vogue’s Objects of Affection series, Owens discusses his Giacomo Balla chairs, his Owenscorp furniture, antique firearms passed down from his father, and the apartment’s pièce de résistance, an ancient Egyptian sarcophagus. “We call her Liza,” he smirks, “after Liza Minelli.”

Little sparks of exuberance abound in the “travertine cave” Owens calls home, among them skulls auctioned off from medical schools—a memento mori—and Onagadori rooster feathers. “I wanted some place that would be a blank space for me, so I could get into the zone of putting the collection together,” he says. Watch the video for a rare and special glimpse into Owens’s world in Italy, with a sneak peek of his closet, which consists of “a little stack of t-shirts and a little stack of shorts.”
