A McKeesport man, angry that an ex-girlfriend was driving co-workers home from work, followed them, rammed the car and ultimately shot and killed the man in her passenger seat, according to police.

Tyrique Simmons, 21, is charged with homicide in connection with the death of 20-year-old Ibrahim Diallo.

A criminal complaint filed against Simmons said police responded to a ShotSpotter alert just after 12:40 a.m. near Union Avenue. Police found broken glass and a spent shell casing. Soon after, Versailles police received a call for a car that had driven into a building on Walnut Street with a gunshot victim in the passenger seat.

Police said when they arrived at the scene, they found Diallo dead in the passenger seat of the crashed car and a 19-year-old woman who was uninjured.

The woman told police that Simmons came to the fast-food restaurant where she was a manager to threaten and harass her, according to the complaint. After the restaurant closed for the night, she drove home three co-workers, including Diallo. As she left, she said, she noticed Simmons following her.

She said Simmons rammed and tried to block her car as she dropped off her second co-worker, according to the complaint. She said he ran up to her car and fired three shots. At least one of them hit Diallo.

The woman said she drove away, but Simmons continued to pursue her, according to the complaint. She eventually lost control and crashed into a building. She said she got out, lay on the ground and saw Simmons approaching. She said Simmons opened the passenger door and proceeded to yell at and spit on Diallo, the complaint said.

She said Simmons walked up to her and told her, “I told you not to drive them home,” police wrote.

While officers were still processing the scene, Simmons called 911 to report that he’d shot someone and wanted to turn himself in, according to the complaint.

He told the 911 operator that he’d been feeling depressed because his girlfriend was with another person that she works with, according to the complaint.

He admitted to waiting for her and following her before chasing her until she crashed, the complaint said. He said as she crashed, he fired a shot out of his window and killed the man and, before he drove away, he saw his girlfriend get out of the car crying, the complaint said.

Simmons drove to the White Oak police department to turn himself in, according to the complaint. He had blood on his clothing, police said.
