Perhaps working on the philosophy of “go big or go home” often espoused by Ventura’s local community of surfers, when it comes to the retail sales of illicit narcotics, 39-year-old Albert Eklund was no small-timer.

His May 11 th arrest pursuant to the efforts of the Ventura County interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit (PCU) and the Thousand Oaks Police Directed Enforcement Unit (DEU) came after an investigation that began on March 31 st . According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sergeant John Hajducko, it was on that date that Thousand Oaks Patrol deputies were called to multiple “drug overdose calls”, each of which required the skilled intervention f
paramedics to “save the lives of the victims.”

The immediately ensuing investigation into the overdoses “identified Eklund as the source of supply” for the fentanyl responsible in the overdoses. Thousand Oaks DEU detectives ultimately obtained search warrants which were served at Eklund’s residence in the San Fernando Valley jurisdiction of Panorama City. That search led detectives to the discovery and seizure of six ounces of fentanyl, four ounces of methamphetamine, “over 200 assorted pills containing fentanyl and MDMA,” 17 pounds of marijuana, an undisclosed amount of LSD, a pair of firearms, “a LAW rocket launcher” and enough U.S. currency to be indicative of ongoing illicit narcotics sales.

Eklund was transported from L.A. County to Ventura County Jail, where he was booked on multiple firearms and narcotics violations. He remains in custody with his bail set at $250,000.
