Shuler pool to become religious retreat

Swimmers enjoy Stanley's Hawksbill Pool to beat the summer heat.

May 20, 1965 — Carroll Shuler, owner of Hawksbill Recreation area and pool announced this week the sale of the facilities to Jim Wilkins, a real estate man of Arlington. The 26-acre tract will be utilized as a church center and ministerial retreat much like Massanetta Springs.

Wilkins stated that the facilities would be operated this summer as usual while plans are being formulated for development of the area but would not be open on Sundays as in the past.

Tentative plans call for the building of additional cottages and a convention hall, a restaurant and other auxiliary facilities.

The name of the development as tentatively adopted will be Stonehaven for the Christian Family.
